We had the pleasure of working with Al Pollak during our search process that spanned almost a full year. Al spent time working to understand what we were looking for used his experience to guide us towards various options. His primary focus was to ensure that we were looking at boats that were clean that fit our profile. It became evident early in the process that Al was one we could trust. We ended up purchasing a Catalina back in March and are very happy with it. Al stays in regular contact and is quick to follow-up. We will always be happy to recommend Al and Massey to anyone looking for a boat.

Al Pollak is the top yacht broker in Florida for good reason. Having worked with several brokers over the years, it took a while for me to understand that my expectations were completely out of sync with what. Al was really going to do. The difference was not in looking at boats for sale, but rather in the time we spent discussing individual boats and the yacht market in general. Al was brutally honest in giving us the facts about selling our old boat, and an absolute wealth of knowledge and experience in looking for the new one. When we made an offer on a boat in Mobile, Al took two days to drive up for the survey and sea trial. And it turns out we were not an exception. Give Al a call and he will often tell you that he is in St Augustine, Miami, or some other corner of the world looking at a boat for a prospective buyer. A year after purchasing our Catalina 470, Al continues to be a consistent and reliable source of information for us. Knowing that we were looking for a new dinghy, Al gave us a call when he found a dealer in Miami that wanted to clear some inventory at a good price. Working with Al is not just a way to look at boats for sale, but hooking into the boating business from the inside.

I am writing this letter which has been long overdue. It is in reference to a boat that I purchased from Kelly Bickford at Massey Yachts as the agent at the helm. Picture a first time sailor who decided to buy a 40 foot sailboat and then learn to sail it. I was a total virgin skipper who knew nothing about boats. After looking at many boats, I found the Das Drucker in Florida right there at Massey. From the moment I found interest to the moment it was shipped from Florida and arrived at Michigan City, Indiana, Kelly was right there to guide me and teach me the process. Kelly helped me to understand what and who to work with. It seems to me that once he received the signed documents he could have been less available to me. Kelly was there to the very end. He helped keep my nerves in check. He was honest and dependable. The fact is that he still is there for me now when I need him 1 year later. I have since logged 28 sails with my wife and friends. I am a converted pirate to say the least. Thanks so much for your patience Kelly!

John Barr has been very helpful before, during and after the purchase of our boat. He is very knowledgeable and assisted in every step of the sale of our old boat, which was not listed with Massey, and the new boat search. He assisted in the new boat survey and financing. Some 6 months after the sale when we needed some repairs on the new boat he made himself available to assist in that as well. I would not hesitate to recommend John to anyone interested in selling or buying a new or used boat.

I have a feeling that you may appreciate some customer feedback about our recent boat purchase. Previous to my purchase, I had been shopping with other brokers for two years. When I first met the Massey staff in the St. Pete office of Massey Yacht sales, I felt that I was in a different world than most of the other brokers that I had shopped for boats with. Bill Wiard took the time to show me lots of boats close by, and then, researched more boats to look at in the surrounding area. When I finally kept thinking about the same boat, and made an offer, he presented it in a most professional way, and facilitated the sale. I hope the same staff will still be in business when and if I ever trade boats again, but that may be a long time, cause I sure do enjoy the one I have now.

My experiences when starting to look for my next boat were definitely educational to say the least. I had never purchased a boat through a broker before so I had no idea how it worked. I had brokers tell me, just make a bid, I'll send you the paperwork, when I hadn't even seen the boat. When I called them on it saying, I need to see the boat prior to making any bid, they just blew me off as if they hadn't the time to deal with someone wanting to purchase a used boat.
I was pleasantly surprised when I contacted John McNally at Massey Yacht sales. John set me up to see the very boats others didn't want to bother showing. He made arrangements for viewings with competing yacht brokers when requested without question.
When we found the right boat John coordinated with my surveyor when requested and worked together to solve issues that were noted in the survey. He helped coordinate negotiations between the two parties to come to a mutual purchase agreement. He also worked within a very tight schedule to prepare the boat for closing and transport. In one of the worst weather days of the year in the rain and cool temperatures John showed me how to work all the furling systems of my new boat. Cold and wet we set sail together as John instructed us on the navigation of the intercostals waterway. He coordinated our first stopping point and arranges dockage for the night.
Alice in finance helped us find a way to transfer needed funds within required deadlines allowing the deal to come together within the required schedule. I am thankful and pleased to have done business with Massey and their fine group of professionals.

My wife and I wanted to take a moment of your time and let you know about the fantastic experience we had working with Al Pollak, one of your sales reps out of the St. Petersburg office. After dealing with a couple of other brokers and getting nowhere I placed a call to your St. Pete office and spoke with Al. He took some information about the type of sailboat we were looking for (mid to late 70's 41' Morgan O/I) and set up a meeting for that Saturday. When we arrived Al had a fistful of printouts of boats for us to look in our price range. He listened as we told him of our plans to outfit the boat and then take off for a year or more and explore the Caribbean. Within a month of first meeting with Al we had visited Miami twice, first to see the boat in person and then for sea trial and survey. Al was there with us every step of the way and we soon closed on a 1977 41' Morgan O/I named Scotch Mist which soon became The Last Resort.
Eighteen months later in early 2008 I sent out an e-mail to friends and family detailing our imminent departure and to let them know of our web site to they could follow along on our journey. Al responded "You're actually doing this? Can I share your web site with others who want to do the same?" Al told us of how many people he dealt with that had the same aspirations we did but never put their plans in action. I told him that he could give our web site to anyone he'd like.
Over the next year and a half Cara, our two cats and I made a clockwise circumnavigation of the Caribbean visiting 25 countries and sailing some 5,000 miles along the way. We stayed in touch with Al from time to time and towards the end of the journey when we were in Guatemala I contacted Al once again about being our broker to sell The Last Resort once we got back to Florida. As always he was extremely helpful and once we were back in Madeira Beach he provided pointers on how to get her looking good and ready to show to potential buyers. By early September she was ready to show and the listing was completed and two months later The Last Resort had sold to a couple from Canada.
We were able to realize a dream we had nurtured for over 12 years thanks in large part to Al's hard work and encouragement. And when it came time to move on to other things he was right there with thoughts on how to get the boat ready to show to potential buyers and we ended up getting the price we were looking for. Now that's service!
Al was not only our broker for both purchasing and selling our boat, but be became a friend and mentor before, during and after our amazing journey around the Caribbean and we'll always be grateful for his help and knowledge.
So next time you see Al in the St. Pete office give him a pat on the back and a big thank you from Cara and I, he's a true professional and someone you should value a great deal as a part of your business.

Sales Person: Bill Wiard
To whom it may concern, I have known Bill Wiard now for over ten years as he helped enormously in the purchase of my first large sailboat and then again with the sale some seven years later. Working on both sides of the sale with Massey Yachts was a truly easy and painless process. These people really know their business and are real professionals.
With my interests ahead of all others, Bill and Massey Yachts sold me the right boat at the right price and helped me to sell the same boat quickly in very difficult marketplace times. Their expertise really helped guide me in the perfect direction- especially in regards to what I had to do to make the boat sell worthy and garnish the highest price for the value.
Beyond the norm is how I would describe their performance. As always, it is the little things that really make the difference. The proof is in these examples. After the new buyer's survey, they complained that I needed to install a new water pump as the water was slow to come out of the faucets. Bill looked at that and discovered the pump was fine but the spickets were clogged with calcium deposits and corrosion. He called me to inform me of the finding and that he had personally gone to the boat and cleaned them himself. Oh, and by the way, he had some free time and took it upon himself to disassemble ALL of the winches and lubricate them. I call that going "beyond the norm!"
There is no doubt in my mind that when I can afford another sailboat Massey Yachts will be my first and only choice for a yacht broker and I'll even bet Bill Wiard will still be there.

Dear Mr. Massey, We are Jeff and Patricia Smith. We would like to tell you about our experience with your company in our purchase of an Island Packet 37'. Our broker was Scott Hughey. He did a tremendous job! We have been working with him for 7 to 8 months. During that time he guided us through the process (this is our first yacht purchase) with patience, integrity and experience. There was never any pressure and he helped us find the right boat that fit our needs. We looked at many sailboats during the process and Scott was always available when we had questions or a need to see a particular boat. He was always gracious and patient with us. We kept going back to a particular Island Packet that was out of our price range but was our "dream boat". We made an offer but the owner said we were too far apart so he didn't even counter our offer. Scott was persistent and we finally reached an agreement. Today we are the proud owners. Scott is certainly an asset to your company and should be commended for the job he did. In addition, all the office staff (especially Alice) did a great job! Thanks again for helping us "live our dream".

It was a pleasure working with Bill Wiard, Grant Smalling and Alice Winter at Massey Yacht Sales on the purchase of our Catalina 320. Living almost 2000 miles away, I thought the purchasing process would be difficult. Bill spent many hours patiently showing me boats, giving me great advice and handling all of the details after I made my decision. Grant seamlessly organized my financing. Alice made the closing as simple as 1, 2, and 3. After closing Bill volunteered a day of his time to deliver the boat to my marina and prepare it for our first sailing adventure. I would recommend Massey Yacht Sales to anyone in the market for a new or used sailboat.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for all the assistance provided by Al Pollak over the last couple of years in finding me a 36'Catalina. Although it has been a long haul and we looked at boats from NY,VA, TX and FL, Al never lost his enthusiasm and could not do enough to assist me. After all the searching we finally found the right boat just around the corner in Palmetto, a boat that your company sold new, then took it in trade and sold it again and finally it was sold to me. Al made the sales process very easy on me and was intimately involved with all the steps in getting a contract, survey and delivery to my slip. Al is extremely knowledgeable, competent, professional and a pleasure to deal with. You should consider yourself fortunate to have a professional like Al in your employ.

It is my pleasure to let anyone who might be interested in dealing with Brad Crabtree know of our experience with him as our broker, both when purchasing and selling our boats. My wife and I began serious boating in 2001 and purchased a 47 Caliber through Brad. He was so very helpful as to our needs, gave us advise which was invaluable, and followed through with our purchase so completely. When we sold our boat through him again, our experience was the same. We bought a second boat, this time a trawler, and he was most helpful. Again our experience with Brad with the sale of our second boat was similar. If I ever get back into boating, Brad Crabtree will be our broker.

Just to let you know just how pleased we were with your assistance during our recent acquisition of "Half Moon" (Catalina 42). With so many previously owned boats on the market it is difficult to know just where to start.
But having the assistance and direction of a professional yacht broker helped immensely. From the initial contact and right through to the closing you were there for us. I have had the pleasure of having Scott Pursell of Massey Yachts help me purchase three sailboats over the past five years. The professionalism and customer centric approach of Scott and the Massey Yacht team have made each of these purchases an absolute delight. The negotiations and offers to purchase were all executed, sight unseen of the boat - a nerve-wracking process for me, but one in which Scott seemed so in control that I was comfortable following expectations on all fronts. These were not straight forward deals by any means - one was an ex-charter boat located in the BVI, one basically abandoned in South Carolina and the third an ex-charter boat in North Carolina. One common thread was that all three were destined to leave the USA. The team at Massey worked through all the steps to find buyer-focused surveyors, assist in coordinating test sails and finally ensure clear title for exportation of each boat. All documents were produced without error and all arrived as promised on time for closing and customs clearance into Canada.
I jump at any chance I get to recommend a fellow boater to Scott and Massey Yachts and I would never consider buying another boat wihtout having Scott and Massey Yachts on my side. What more could a buyer ask for than a smooth no surprises purchases - kind of like a sunny sail in 10 to 12 knots of warm wind on a wide body of water...just doesn't get any better!

We started our dream of owning a sailboat about 4 years ago. We spend a lot of time at the boatshows and at one of these boatshows (Miami) we met Rusty Hightower. Rusty was working with Massey Yachts and introduced us to the Catalina line. For the next couple of years Rusty kept us in touch with the sailboat market. He would spend all the time we needed showing us many boats, from full keel traditional all the way to modern boats. After having build a relationship with Rusty we were very happy that when the time came for us to buy he was our broker. We now have owned our own sailboat, Catalina 400 (2005), for 6 months and Rusty has kept in touch making sure this boating experience is all we hoped it would be. Also we can't say enough about the whole Massey team. From Ed Massey to Alice in the office to Jim in service, we were treated better than we ever expected to be. Our whole boat buying and owning experience has been very pleasant.

He looked far and wide for all possibilities to help us narrow our search. He spent mega hours with us, just before the Christmas holidays-- taking personal time, and made the whole process fun and enjoyable. We couldn't be happier with our boat and it is due to Joe's professionalism and experience. If you need a friend in the boat business we highly recommend Joe Zammataro. He's your man!!!

After 25 years of sailing small craft and thinking about getting a "real boat" I started seriously looking about a year ago and have just brought home a 2008 Hunter 45 DS that was brokered by Massey Yacht Sales. During my search I had met and spoken with several brokers and salespersons and had been warned by friends to beware the "used car salesman". My experience with Al Pollak of Massey Yacht Sales has been the best of any major purchase I have made. Never did I feel pressured to buy a boat in his inventory or any boat at all. We had several conversations about sailing and sailboats in general and it is obvious he has a great deal of experience and knowledge. Hopefully, I will never need to sell my boat (unless to trade for a larger one) but if I do, the only person I will call is Al Pollak at Massey Yacht Sales.

Searching for our "retirement boat", we found that the viewing opportunities for a ~40' Catalina limited in Ontario, so we contacted Massey Yachts in Florida. Kelly responded that he'd be willing to show us the selection & arranged for a factory tour. He listened to our shopping list & we looked at a few boats - we thought that retirement was 18 months away.
On a subsequent trip (after the retirement date shortened by a year) we specifically looked at 38', 40' & 42' sloops & narrowed our selection to the Catalina 400. Kelly explained the bidding / purchasing process & Florida tax implications for foreign-flagged vessels. We reached a conditional offer & once the marine survey / sea trial passed &a the deal closed, Kelly helped us arrange for upgrades & summer storage at a local boatyard. He was constantly available & very helpful through out our search for the right boat.
I'd have no hesitation working with Kelly again & recommend that serious buyers contact him to find their boat. Anne & Terry, Sudbury, Ont. Canada

Dear Mr. Massey,
My wife and I had been researching to buy our first sailboat for close to two years. After looking at a handful of boats and meeting various brokers, we were beginning to believe that yacht salespeople were no better than the worst cliches about used car dealers.
Then I happen to talk to John McNally while calling about an Island Packet listed on Yachtworld. From the first conversation to the goodbyes after the five day delivery trip, the experience restored our faith that there are genuine people it the brokerage business. John was personable, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile in helping us purchase the right boat.
When we move on to a larger vessel, there is no doubt who we will call. Thanks for making our first sailboat purchase a wonderful experience and giving us the confidence and reassurance about who can help us in the future.
Sincerely yours,

We could tell from our first meeting at the Miami Boat Show 4 years ago that Linda had real-world cruising experience. She had valuable knowledge about the features we were looking for in a sailboat and was able to answer our questions. We loved the Hunter 41 aft cabin from the very first time we saw the model there in Miami. Beth loves to cook and was thrilled with the roomy pantry in the galley as well as the spacious countertops and separate fridge and freezer. Such a wonderful use of space! And we also loved the aft cabin with the queen-size berth. We much prefer this layout to a V-berth. The forward cabin is also wonderful, with the roomy Pullman berth and vanity/sink combo. All this, plus the open living quarters with lots of light from overhead portlights led us to feel this was the boat for us.
Cruising together in the islands has been a dream of ours ever since we met in 2001. We both had sailboats years ago and loved sailing. We bareboated in the British Virgin Islands in 2002 and loved the feeling of living on a boat, sailing wherever you felt like going that day. The freedom and beautiful surroundings made us both know we wanted more of that lifestyle. Now we just had to wait for our kids to get older and go off to college!
Even though we weren't ready to purchase our dream boat when we first met Linda in Miami, she kept in touch with us and we knew we'd turn to her when the time finally came to find & buy our boat. Once we located our Hunter 41 A.C. this spring, Linda was a wonderful advisor and advocate. She was very helpful in explaining the buying process and then during the survey and sea trial. She even flew to Baltimore to be with us for the survey and sea trial in March!
Linda is a caring, warm individual and we could tell from the start that she wanted to help us find that "perfect fit" boat...not just make a sale. We highly recommend her as a broker for her knowledge of boats, her cruising experience and her engaging personality. You won't be disappointed!

Dear Mr Massey,
Having recently purchased a Hunter 420 in Bear DE via your company and in particular Al Pollack, I would like to take the oppertunity to say how pleased we are with Al's outstanding help and guidance throughout our purchase. We live in the Uk and came over to Florida last year to view a few yachts that we had seen via the internet, Al was more than happy to show us around the yachts we had ear marked to look at. He gave us completly unbiased advice and pointed out good and bad features in each yacht. As we are from the UK many of the yachts were unknown to us and Al was keen to help us find a yacht that would not only suit our needs but that would stand up to what we had in mind.
Just as we were forming an idea as to what yacht we preferred we received news from the UK that the buyers of our house had pulled out of the deal and therfore we could not proceed with the purchase of a yacht at that time. We promised Al that we would be in touch when we were in a better position to buy and we had the cash in our hands. Well that took almost a year to happen and we had found a boat in Delaware but it was not listed with yourselves. We contacted Al via our friends in Tampa and he told us that he could act for us and we were over the moon. He contacted the listing broker and after a long exchange of e mails and phone calls we finaly made an offer on the boat.
Al then very kindly went to Delaware to view the boat on our behalf and to tell us if it was worth the trip over. He gave us the thumbs up and we came over to survey and sea trial the boat.
When we arrived at the boat we were so pleased that the boat was exactly as Al had described. Al arrived and walked us through the survey and the sea trial, once again pointing out all the good and bad things about the boat and making sure we were 100% happy. His laid back friendly and professional attitude helped us tremendously through the whole procces and as such good service is rare these days we thought we should write and commend Al for all his help and advice. He really made a huge difference to our whole buying experience and because of his help we would not hesitate in using or recommending Massey Yacht services and Al Pollack.
Yours sincerely
